Staying Spirit-Led in the Mundane: A Kingdom-Minded Approach

One of the frequent questions that I get from Kingdom-minded, presence-driven business leaders is: “How can I stay in the place of being led by the Spirit in the midst of the mundane of daily life in the workplace?” Often, we tend to complicate this more than necessary. The Holy Spirit, the indwelling presence of God, desires a continual conversation with us. Being anchored in prayer means including God in every aspect of our lives. Here’s how you can stay Spirit-led amidst daily demands.

The Simplicity of Continual Conversation

The Holy Spirit is always with us, yearning, aching and even creating dynamics for an ongoing dialogue. How shall we patriciate with the heart of the divine? It’s about asking simple questions like, “Holy Spirit, what are you saying? What do I need to know about this situation?” By inviting the Spirit into every task, and situation we begin to infuse our daily work and responsibilities with divine presence. The mental culture shift is the revelation that we are not working to provide for our families or carrier goal. No, that is a secondary result of the primary. We are on a heavenly assignment as Ambassadors of Christ in the earth. We are building the Kingdom of God within the Marketplace environments that we find ourselves in. We are on divine assignment to be the hand, feet, and mouthpiece of God.

Now, if the above is true, than the triune Godhead is always taking – He is always near, leading and releasing to us what and how He desires to shape and mold our company and team.

Biblical Foundation

The Bible encourages us to involve God in everything we do. Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” This scripture highlights the importance of communion and union with God’s presence into every part of our lives. From Genesis to Revelation the common theme is God and man dwelling together in constant communion. Where things go awry is when we attempt to operate under our own strength an understanding. Proverbs gives us two great principles to live by. Proverbs 14:12 says, There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. and Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. And Isaiah is very clear, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways… As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). To stay in the spirit at work we ought to continually talk to the indwelling spirit and connect our thoughts to His. Simply put- Prayer is merely talking to God. Don’t over complicate it. Its really simple.

Eavesdropping on the Trinity’s Conversation

A profound way to stay Spirit-led is to “eavesdrop” on the conversations within the Trinity. By asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the prayers Jesus is praying for us, we align ourselves with heavenly intercession. Hebrews 7:25 reminds us, “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Jesus, our great intercessor, is continuously advocating on our behalf. Holy Spirit is the great revealer. He will reveal to us what Jesus is praying. Merely repeat back to God what God is praying. I’ve never heard of prayer the Jesus prayed that did not get answered.

Pro tip: It could be that, one of the reasons why our prayers don’t get answered is because we are not praying the prayers that Jesus is praying for us. Pray what God is praying and we will see an increase in answered prayers.

Inquiring of the Lord

Psalm 27:4 highlights the importance of seeking God: “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” Constantly inquiring of the Lord ensures that we remain in His presence and direction.

Asking the Right Questions

To stay Spirit-led, it’s crucial to ask the right questions, here are few I often ask:

  • Holy Spirit, what do I need to know about this situation?
  • What are the prayers that Jesus, the great intercessor, is praying for me right now?
  • What do you want me to do in this moment?

By asking questions, we position ourselves to receive divine wisdom and insight. John 16:13 promises, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Ancient Hebrew culture is rich with meaning and wisdom. One of the ancient Hebrew practices that we have missed (or at least few practice) is the art of asking questions. I have noticed how often Jesus asks questions of his followers and listeners. Many times He even answers a question by asking a question. Often times we have created a belief system that we have to have a answer or a solution to all the questions and problems. Where in fact often times the solution and the answer rest in asking the right question. I fully believe that the Spirit is trying to get us to ask (inquire of Him) the right question.

Practical Application in Daily Life

  1. Incorporate Prayer into Daily Tasks: Before starting any task, while doing the task and after a task is complete, take a moment to pray. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and ask Him what question we need to be asking.
  2. Listen Actively: As you go through your day, listen for the Spirit’s promptings. This might come as a gentle nudge, a thought, or a scripture verse that comes to mind. Pay special attention to song lyrics and movie scripts. God is always talking, pay attention the pour in spirit see God.
  3. Stay Thankful: Cultivate an attitude of gratitude. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
  4. Devotional Journal: Keep a journal of what you feel the Holy Spirit is saying. Reflect on these notes regularly to see how God is leading you.
  5. Engage in Corporate Prayer: Find a group of like-minded believers to pray with regularly. Matthew 18:20 assures us, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Conclusion

Staying Spirit-led amidst the demands of daily life is simpler than we often make it. By maintaining an ongoing conversation with the Holy Spirit and asking the right questions, we align ourselves with God’s will. Remember, whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God, and He will guide you in every step. His name is Emmanuel God with us.
