If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:7-8)
One of the frequent questions I receive is about the biblical foundation for the partnership between marketplace leaders and prophetic intercessors. People often ask, “Where in the Bible is the place for this partnership?” I always point to several key scriptures that vividly illustrate this divine collaboration.
The first example is found in the story of Moses, Aaron, and Hur during the battle against the Amalekites in Exodus 17:10-13. Moses stood on top of a hill with the staff of God in his hands, and as long as he held up his hands, the Israelites were winning. But when he lowered his hands, the Amalekites began to prevail. When Moses’ hands grew tired, Aaron and Hur held them up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. This act of support and intercession directly influenced the outcome of the battle, illustrating the power of prayer and partnership. Moses, as the primary leader and visionary of the people of God, was able to remain in a place of worship and connection with God, which directly affected the success of Joshua and the Israelites in the valley below.
Another powerful example is found in 2 Chronicles 20:21-23, where King Jehoshaphat faced a vast army of enemies. Outnumbered and outgunned, he appointed the Levites and priests to lead the army in worship, singing praises to God. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the enemy forces, causing them to turn on each other. The victory was so complete that it took three days for Jehoshaphat and his people to collect the plunder. This story underscores the transformative power of worship and intercession in the face of overwhelming odds.
In the New Testament, the partnership between Apostle Paul and Epaphras highlights the significance of continuous prayer for the success of others. In Colossians 1:7 and 4:12-13, Paul commends Epaphras for his fervent prayers and dedication. Epaphras is described as “always wrestling in prayer” for the believers in Colossae, so that they may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. Paul acknowledges that Epaphras’ prayers contribute significantly to the spiritual well-being and success of the community, showing that effective ministry and leadership are often undergirded by dedicated intercession.
Peter’s escape from prison, as recounted in Acts 12:5-17, is another testament to the power of intercessory prayer. When Peter was imprisoned by King Herod, the church prayed earnestly for him. In response to their prayers, an angel of the Lord appeared and freed Peter from his chains, leading him out of the prison. This story demonstrates that collective intercession can bring about divine intervention and supernatural outcomes.
Throughout the Bible, we see a recurring theme: God moves powerfully when His people engage in intercessory prayer. In Revelation 11:15, it is proclaimed, “The kingdoms of the world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever.” This vision of the ultimate triumph of God’s Kingdom is a call to action for believers to pray and intercede, aligning themselves with God’s will and decreeing His government over the nations.
As intercessors, we are called to partner with marketplace leaders, supporting them in prayer and holding up their arms as Aaron and Hur did for Moses. This partnership is essential for advancing God’s Kingdom on earth. By entering into a place of worship and intercession, we create an environment where God’s presence and power can flow into the marketplace. As we align ourselves with God’s heart and pray for His strategies, blueprints, and breakthroughs, we become conduits of His will and agents of transformation.
In practical terms, this means praying for the success, integrity, and spiritual growth of marketplace leaders. It means declaring’s and decreeing in agreeing with God to release His ingenuity and strategies over their businesses and organizations. It means interceding for their families, marriages, and personal well-being, recognizing that their personal lives impact their professional influence.
The best leadership school is the place of prayer. Consider Joshua. The Bible says, “So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.” Joshua would become Moses’ successor. He was raised up in the presence of the Lord. Just as Joshua never left the tent of meeting, remaining in God’s presence, we too must stay connected to God, seeking His face and His will for our marketplace kingdom assignments. Possibly, what we should do is raise up the next generation of business leaders in the presence of the Lord, so that they would be versed in the school of the spirit. Obviously, they need the acumen and language of business and leadership in a real world context- but what we need most are business leaders who know the will and ways of the spirit of God.
As sons and daughters of the Most High King, we are made for collaboration and partnership. God’s design for His Kingdom involves working together, supporting one another, and fulfilling His purposes as a unified body. Ephesians 4:16 speaks to this unity: “From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” We cannot achieve God’s calling in and by ourselves; He requires our full submission to His heart and collaboration with others. Proverbs 27:17 states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Partnership in prophetic intercession is key for holding up the arms of God’s mercy messengers in the Marketplace.
The role of intercessory prayer in the marketplace is crucial. As we engage in prayer, we become part of the divine strategy to bring about God’s Kingdom into the earth’s spheres and realms of society. Our prayers create a spiritual covering and a support system for those on the front lines of kingdom expansion. Through our intercession, we hold up the arms of marketplace leaders, ensuring they remain strong and focused on their God-given mission and assignments. This partnership in prayer not only supports them but also aligns us with God’s purposes, enabling His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
