He Made Me a Father to Pharaoh.

The Backstory:

When I look back over the last 15 years of ministry and life in the Spirit, the single most consistent prophetic word we have received has been in some form or another related to a “Joseph” word. I’ve been prophesied over publicly, privately, via text, email, and across dining room tables. It has become a bit of a family conversation and a place of meditative prayer dialogue with the Lord. As time progressed, I grew to love these words. Initially, I was intrigued; then, as they became more frequent, they grew exasperating. But they kept coming. Over time, I began (slowly) to feel more affection and adoration toward the Lord for giving them to us. Now, I love them, and I look for them. Over the last several years, the Holy Spirit has released revelation and understanding to me during my prayer and meditation times. I truly look forward to the times when the Holy Spirit wants to go deeper into the conversation.

I am starting this series of blogs with the hope that someday it will become a book, study course, e-course, or something similar.

My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will speak to you and share something that equips and empowers you to love God and understand that there is a redemptive nature in your story. He is placing you in the right places and spaces to become a father figure to those around you. Enjoy the journey!

About the Title:

The phrase “He made me a father to Pharaoh” from Genesis 45:8 is a summation and mission statement of Joseph’s journey from betrayal to becoming a key advisor to the most powerful leader of his day, illustrating God’s sovereign positioning. God is raising up modern-day Josephs and Daniels to be mentors and advisors to the most powerful decision-makers in today’s world, shaping history through divine strategies and wisdom. God is positioning His people to lead with wisdom, integrity, and a heart for His kingdom’s redemptive purposes.

He Made Me a Father to Pharaoh

“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt” (Genesis 45:8).

God is positioning many leaders in culture and society to be advisors and confidants to the most powerful people on earth. These are the Josephs of our time, divinely placed to provide wisdom and guidance in spheres of influence where decisions shape the course of history, communities, and culture. God is releasing strategies and divine blueprints to the Body of Christ, displaying His heart and extending His kingdom in unprecedented ways during this pivotal time in human history.

Most of us are called to shape culture through the workplace. Very few are called to missions or ministry work. Just think about the general population of the earth—how many hours per week are spent at work versus at church. Now think of how many unchurched individuals we encounter daily. One day, I counted how many touchpoints I had with people throughout the day, and it was over 1,000. That means I had 1,000 opportunities to allow the presence of God within me to touch someone else.

As followers of Jesus in culture, our role is crucial. God is so passionate about touching the human heart that He will use any means possible to reach people. Bill Johnson once said, “God is better than we think, so it’s time to change the way we think.” This resonates deeply as we explore Joseph’s journey, which exemplifies God’s sovereign plan to place His chosen leaders in positions of influence. God never wastes a trial—He uses every circumstance to display His goodness and legacy-building strategies through human relationships. Andrew Murray further reminds us, “God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to Him.” Joseph didn’t always handle every situation perfectly, but in the end, he surrendered to God’s will, allowing the Lord to shape his destiny. These insights help us understand leadership as a divine calling and kingdom-building assignment, not just a position of power.

Joseph’s Relevance Today

What does Joseph’s life have to do with me? Joseph’s story is timeless—God is establishing modern-day Josephs, Daniels, Shadrachs, Meshachs, and Abednegos, who carry the qualities needed for such a time as this. The journey of God’s leaders often involves difficulty, abandonment, betrayal, pride, and self-promotion, ultimately leading them to a place of humility and authority. Through the fires of adversity, God raises leaders who will fulfill His redemptive plans.

Joseph’s journey from the pit to the palace was not straightforward. It was filled with trials that prepared him for his ultimate role. Similarly, God uses both our triumphs and trials to shape us into the leaders He needs us to be. Each challenge is a stepping stone toward your divine destiny. As Joseph told his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Genesis 50:20).

God intends to bring families together to disciple nations, and the only way to achieve this is by cultivating the interior qualities necessary to serve as fathers, mentors, confidants, and friends. These qualities shape us into the leaders God wants us to be in the world today.

A Personal Reflection

Over the years, many prophetic words have been given to me and my family about carrying a Joseph anointing. At one point, we received so many that we began to filter prophetic ministry by asking if it was a Joseph word. If it was, we would kindly request that it be emailed, as we had already received numerous such words. However, I have since corrected this approach and now welcome every word God gives through His people, regardless of its context.

In this series, I will explore what the Spirit has shown me and how Joseph didn’t get promoted solely because he could interpret dreams. God prepared him throughout his life, equipping him with skills and abilities that qualified him to be second in command of Egypt—the known center of economy at the time. The prophetic opened the way for Joseph to display what God had built within him, and his journey with the Lord is what truly qualified him.

We will examine every season of Joseph’s life and discuss how God leads and develops us. Each season serves both the present and future, preparing us for what’s ahead. We’ll explore servant leadership, betrayal, disappointments, setbacks, and more, drawing parallels to our own lives as we learn to lead.

God is positioning His sons and daughters to be influencers, decision-makers, and advisors, shaping the world with His redemptive love. He is positioning us to say, “You didn’t send me here, and neither did I; God set me here so that I could become a father to the most powerful people on the planet.”
